This is the abridged edition of the earlier work with the same title, containing all the findings from the earlier book without discussion of the research and experimentation that led to the conclusions. Some minor corrections and updates since the first edition are included.

This is the first work explaining low temperature processes kilnformers use in a systematic way. Stephen Richard provides a wide range of in depth information based on his long experience of diagnosis, combined with his new research relating to scheduling for low temperature firings.

A general review of glass characteristics and behaviour at lower than full fuse temperatures is given. This enables development of processes and helps to understand risks through analysis the causes of failures. It gives knowledge of the key factors in preparing schedules for each of the processes, with sample schedules for each of them.

Instead of ‘one size fits all’ methods of determining schedules, four different methods are outlined with their advantages and drawbacks, which enables a wide view of the process of devising a schedule, especially for complicated layups. Two tables of schedules for thicknesses from 6mm to 50mm is given in the appendix, for both Bullseye and Oceanside. All schedules throughout are given in both Celsius and Fahrenheit to make reading them easier.
