Pack weight: 300g

Fibre paper is excellent for kilncarving and a cost-effective way to add some special effects to your glass designs. We do not recommend firing the fibre above 804C (for kilncarving) unless you are planning to do some coldworking.

Kilncarving is a great technique that combines glass fusing and slumping to give a bas relief or carved effects to your glass work.  Just cut the desired image or pattern into the Fibre Paper with the craft knife to create a shallow 'mould', then stack the glass on top of the cut paper before firing in your kiln. The glass melts into the mould, taking on the contours of the pattern.

Warm Glass AES fibre paper is a safe alternative to Ceramic Fibre. Our AES range is made from Alkaline-earth Silicate Wool (AES) which does not contain harmful Refractory Ceramic Fibre (which we have never sold). AES is bio-soluble and does not accumulate in the lungs, but it can be an irritant and we recommend wearing gloves and an FFP3 mask when handling, especially after firing.

This is an excellent alternative to ceramic fibre but it will not withstand the higher temperatures required for processes such as pot melts.

Please note: This fibre does not give as smooth a finish as Thinfire Paper. Opal glasses tend to stick to fibre papers more than clear and transparent coloured glasses, for this reason we do not recommend fibre paper is used as a shelf separator unless it is used in combination with another separator such as Thinfire Paper.

Only 1mm pieces

After opening I discovered the diversity of this pack is highly overrated. I found 26 nice 1mm pieces of approximately 20cm x 30cm.

So no experimenting with different thicknesses as per the description...

Nice to have some fiber paper for starters... But not what I expected

I loved loved loved experimenting with this value pack. There is zero wastage as any little scraps can be used as props for hooks etc. I have now graduated to buying larger volumes. You do need to change your blades quite frequently.
