The economy Boron Nitride is recommended for people who would like to start experimenting with stainless steel moulds without spending a lot.  For more a more professional finish and more reliable results we recommend using the Premium Boron Nitride.

  • You can spray on the Boron Nitride at room temperature.
  • Excellent release properties with low layer thicknesses
  • Great for slumping temperatures and stainless steel moulds
  • Not recommended for casting or fusing temperatures
  • Not recommended for using with ceramic moulds as doesn't give a smooth finish  
  • Shake can thoroughly before each use and spray from a distance of 10cm
  • Apply 2-3 light coats.

A boron nitride spray release agent praised for stainless steel moulds. Customers said it's "fabulous" and "very economical" with two coats lasting several firings. However, some experienced issues with spray cans clogging and the product sticking to ceramic moulds and fusing with glass, making it unsuitable for certain applications.

Ruined my ceramic mould and fused glass

Used this on 2 of my new ceramic casting moulds. First try stuck to the glass and couldn't remove it. So I cleaned moulds and resprayed both. Again both fused glass pieces were coated and unable to remove even after soaking in vinegar overnight as well as glass stuck one of the moulds. Maybe ok for stainless steel or slumping moulds but bad for casting. False economy go for more expensive as that has never failed me.

I have now bought two cans of this expensive spray and each time the spray can has bunged up. So not fit for use. The cap has been put on straight after use. Any ideas?

I have been using st/st moulds with the high quality boron nitride spray for some time with success although it is expensive. Decided to give tygress a go last time and am very pleased with the result - looks as though the two coats application will last through several firings so very economical - I am one very happy fuser

This stuff is fabulous for stainless steel moulds, a two coat application will do several firings so works out much more economical than the more expensive one,

I've been using this for a couple of years so I'm delighted to see it available here now. It leaves a smooth finish on stainless steel, but make sure you spray thinly because it can bubble and crack during firing if the coating is too thick.
