Product Information

The Firebox 14 is a top firing kiln, with the elements in the lid.  The lid itself is a lightweight brick construction coated with refractory cement. It has a cool-touch handle and a prop to keep the lid open when filling or emptying the kiln. The chamber is also made from lightweight brick, which is used because it is able to expand and contract as the kiln heats and cools. It also helps reduce the overall weight of the kiln. There is also a vent hole at the front of the kiln, with a removable ceramic bung.

The kiln comes with a 2 year warranty (Mainland UK only)

Special features:

  • Mini Touchscreen Controller
  • Ceramic Bung
  • Full accessory kit, including- stand, kiln shelf, 3 shelf props, kiln wash (200g) and firing paper.
  • A 20cm metal stand. A 70cm stand is available as an optional extra.

Energy Credentials:

  • Basic Full Fuse KwH: 9.6*
  • Average Cost of Firing: £2.59*

Please note: Due to the material used to make the lid, they are prone to crumbling or flaking This is usually cosmetic and does not affect the kiln's performance. This type of damage can be repaired with Skutt Refractory Cement.

*Information based on supplier testing with 6mm Bullseye Glass on a Basic Full Fuse, and will vary slightly between firings. Energy prices calculated using the UK energy price cap of 27.03p per KwH, correct as of the 1st April 2025.

Great Little Kiln

I am so happy with my Skutt Firebox 14. It is a seriously tough little kiln that works incredibly hard. The square shape is a game-changer for layout space; I can get a surprising amount of glass in there for its size. Reliable, even heating, and a brilliant investment for any glass artist!

I have been using this kiln for glass painting and fusing for getting on 10 years. Love experimenting. Inexpensive to run

Great first kiln

I started glass fusing with a microwave kiln a few years ago and was hooked! I've had this kiln for about 5 months now and used it quite a few times for fusing, slumping, tack fusing and fire polishing. Although the weight appears to be quite high my wife and I lifted it into position quite easily and we are in our 60's! I bought the optional kiln table and, although it is expensive, it is robust and very stable The kiln itself has never failed on both the preset programmes and ones I have added myself. The only criticism I have is that the programmer is a bit out of date when other kilns have app controllers but it is easy to programme. Will Skutt produce a retrofit upgrade for these machines perhaps?

This is a great entry level kiln, I've had mine 6 years and use it lots. Just one thing, I've had to replace the lid twice as the element has broken both times. Luckily it's not too difficult to do but expensive if it's out of warranty. I don't know if I've just been unlucky, the kiln is housed in a warm, dry garage and I always load it with glass that it perfectly dry.

I have been used to a small kiln with no programmer. So when my husband bought the Skutt box 14 for me as a birthday present during lockdown I was overjoyed and I would recommend it to anyone thinking of buying a kiln. It arrived in time for my Birthday it was straight out of the box and ready to use, no problem, so thanks warm glass for the excellent service your the best.

Arrived well packaged, and very easy for a beginner to use, I dived straight in and did my own firing schedules watching YouTube videos. A great starter and great size kind on for the beginner and professional alike! It was love at first sight!!!

There are not enough stars to say how great this kiln is. I have been using it for five years and it always gives great results. (if it doesn't i've done something stupid in the programming) They are really robust mine has moved house without any problem, just plugged it in my new studio and it worked perfectly well. i love it !!!!

One of the best decisions I have ever done, After using a small jewellery kiln a Prometheus Pro1 Kiln for the last 2 years; I decided it was about time I went bigger. I have gone from firing 8 pendants in one go. To now doing 40.

I love this kiln. Its opened my eyes and also the creative side of me totally up. I can now do up to 4x the size bigger pieces. From making small fused glass wonders up to large bowls.

Also having the piece of mind of setting up the kiln in the evening and letting it run till the next morning.

It took a little while for me to understand how the controller works and I have yet got set up my own programs. But to be honest the factory settings works really well.

A really good investment I think..

Bought for my wife as a Christmas present this has been on pretty much everyday (and sometimes twice a day) ever since. Easy to program it has given great results using the factory settings for fusing and slumping and we are only now venturing into programming for deeper slump moulds. Only minor criticism is that the supplied shelf has to be tilted to load it into the kiln to go past the temperature sensor. This means that powders and fine fit can move during the load process. A smaller kiln shelf would be a great accessory for such pieces.

Great service from Warm Glass with delivery on the day requested.

This is a great kiln, I upgraded from my little paragon. It's a really efficient kiln. I'm still getting to grips with it but so far so good!

This is a fantastic easy to use kiln and the results are consistantly good. This is such a great kiln I've just bought a second one so I can increase production when I open my studio/gallery next month!!

I have had my Firebox for over six years and I fire it almost every day, I have never had anything go wrong and its a real workhorse. I would recommend it because it's so easy to use and does exactly what I ask it to... I love it!

After attending a couple of half day workshops on glass fusing I was hooked! I bought myself a microwave kiln but found the results were not consistent. I took the plunge and recently bought the Firebox 14. As yet I have only used a couple of the preset programmes but have found them very easy to use and the results have been great! I would definitely recommend this kiln.

I brought this kiln about 3 weeks ago, and on the first firing it displayed it had failed, which meant that the kiln needed to be replace. Warm glass were brilliant sending me a replacement kiln within the week and this one is brilliant. I have no faults with it, every piece turns out great. Highly recommend buyin, a brilliant kiln for any beginner.

Move over Daniel Craig, I have a new obsession in my life! I love this kiln - my first kiln and so so easy to use. Before i purchased it I was apprehensive about how I would programme. I needn't have worried - it is so simple even an idiot can use it, as I have proved. The size of the inner chamber is big enough for a large variety of projects and, in my opinion, a better option than a smaller kiln. If you can afford to spend a bit more on your first kiln, I would choose this one over a smaller one. Happy days.

Love this kiln. Never got the plug in kiln before. I used to use microwave kiln. This kiln is making my life so easy. Will treasure it until the day I die.

Great programmer, but the fire brick the body of the kiln is made from seems a little soft and consequently grains of brick can drop off and become fused into your work.

From Warm Glass: All kilns use a soft brick as this provides the thermal insulation without thermal mass.

Our advice is to avoid vacuuming the inside of a kiln lid as this disturbs the surface and can cause issues.

Great item, my first Kiln I find it very easy to use, simple controller and fits in up to 9 coasters or a 30cm piece.

Although considered a starter Kiln I think I'll be using this for long time before I upgrade. Great value for money.

I love this kiln, easy to use and easy to program. A good starter kiln which allows you to grow. As others have mentioned, you do need to be a little careful when closing as fine dust can fall on the glass below. However, dont let this put you off - its a good size too.

This is my first and only kiln and it has worked brilliantly (hope this review doesn't jinx it!) and have now been using it for about 4 years now. I do find that it only needs to go to 790c for a full fuse.

My one quibble is that the painty stuff on the lid inside sometimes can drop off on to the glass which means you must remember to close the lid really carefully. Once it has fired it can spoil the smooth surface.

Great buy though and highly recommend.

This is an upgrade from my Prometheus Pro 7 and I was initially concerned about having such a 'beast' in comparison but I needn't have worried! This kiln fires like a dream and has produced some lovely jewellery so far. It also takes half the time thanks to the lovely preset programs. I look forward to having this machine for a good many years, thank you!

I bought my kiln the last time there was a special offer, having been trying to justify to myself for some time that I really "needed" it. It is brilliant - I love the fact that it comes pre-programmed with basic fusing and slumping programmes, so I didn't even have to spend time setting it up before I could use it (unlike my Paragon SC2 kiln). I have successfully made several sets of coasters and slumped a couple of dishes, plus made some great pendants and earrings using these preset programmes. I am looking forward to Christmas when I will have a bit more time to "play"!

This is my first and only kiln which I have had for two years now. It is simple to use and plugs into the mains electricity making it ideal for hobbyists. I run it over night on economy 7 and having a peep to see what's been fired before I go to the day job gets me out of bed in the mornings. I love it and can't recommend it highly enough.

This is my first kiln and I love it! It was very quick to assemble, easy to use and does an excellent job. Definitely a kiln for someone new to glass, however my school also uses this model, so it is very flexible.

K

I love this kiln. It is so easy to use and the results are brilliant. I am a complete novice but found it easy to follow the instructions and use the set programmes. I am really pleased I bought it.

This kiln will automatically take your glass fusing to the next level.

I moved from a microwave kiln to this bad boy and it is without doubt the best thing and investment I have ever made.

You don't have to know about cycles, and ramps and holding temperatures. It has clearly defined starter settings and while you can easily bypass this and move on to your own programmes, you don't need to for a long time.

This kiln is idea for the home fuser who wants to bring new things to the table, I'm now using metalwork, inclusions, making huge pieces and slumping which is all I could ever have dreamt doing with my first kiln.

And it really is simple to use, please take my word for it this kiln is an investment for your hobby and will easily pay for itself

So easy to use, the inbuilt programmes are great. It's a real confidence builder and easy to create your own programmes. A great starter kiln, big enough to create some interesting pieces.

I love it! I am not technically minded so this is bliss, I might even try to do some more advanced firing. So far everything has gone like clockwork. Thanks.

This is an excellent kiln for schools,It has enabled me to extend the art experience my Y6 (10-11yr olds) have in art. They now make glass tiles as Christmas gifts and use them to create a legacy window with 100 tiles when they leave at the end of the year! I also have made some great things in it myself, just want one at home now!!!!!

Just plug and go! I love my Firebox. It was so easy to get started and with a good variety of standard programmes, which I use most of the time. Setting up and saving your own schedules is easy peasy too. Great entry level.
