ZYP Boron Nitride Spray

Despite the instruction to not use this primer with S/S moulds I have found it to be very effective on S/S drape moulds. The procedure I use is to clean the metal well and then use a very fine sandpaper to key the surface of the mould. Clean it again and then apply this primer using a fine broad paint brush. Dry using a hair dryer or heater and you will find the surface finish is good. Any missed areas can be redone.

I have used ZYP Boron Nitride spray, the aerosol version for a long time and it is a very good product, one which alas Warm Glass does not sell. As this appeared to be a cheaper option of the same product and less hazardous I thought I would give it a trial.

In use I did not like it as much as the aerosol version, which produces a very smooth finish and is surprisingly economical, it also dries very quickly and the mould can be ready in about 15 minutes. I found this water based version very difficult to apply smoothly. I did 4 small slump moulds and I was surprised just how much of the bottle it had used, the surface felt soft for a long time so I left it overnight before using. It worked OK and there was no issues with release, though the contact surface finish was not as smooth. I have just re-ordered more of the aerosol version and will keep this as a back-up.

Pour ma part, les résultats sont mauvais en général, le spray est trop fort et le produit est déposé trop épais sur mes petits moules (faut il le racler?). Trop de produit cuit la cuisson et laisse des traces blanches dans le verre...Le mieux c'est de tamponner le produit avec de la ouate en plusieurs fois, c'est plus délicat. Sinon je repasse au spay en bombe pour mes travaux en grande taille, plus rares qui demandent beaucoup de contrôle.

Spray got blocked the first time I tried to use it despite following instructions. Attempted again after soaking the spray and adding more beads in the bottle. Came out in large drops. I would not recommend this. Need to replace my shelf.

The product is good but the spray bottle not so good! I decant it into a little plastic spray bottle every time I use it and shake, shake, shake. Then shake some more,

I've previously wasted lots of money on aerosol Boron which clogs up after a couple of uses and never works again so this is a great alternative
