Our lowest cost glass kiln and a great little workhorse.  This fantastic little kiln is the baby brother of the Firebox 14.  We think it is great because it has a strong build, it's amazingly fast firing, the hinged lid is marvellous, and the icing on the cake: it now comes with the excellent Glassmaster LT 3 button controller, which has programming features for the beginner and the advanced artist.

A great glass kiln for beginners or teachers alike. We regularly use one in the studio for test firing.

Firebox 8 Kiln

The Firebox 8 is a side firing kiln, with the elements in all four walls for an even firing.  The lid itself is a lightweight brick construction coated with refractory cement. It has a cool-touch handle. The chamber is also made from lightweight brick, which is used because it is able to expand and contract as the kiln heats and cools. It also helps reduce the overall weight of the kiln.  The whole kiln is set on sturdy metal feet.

Glassmaster LT controller

The Firebox 8 kiln now comes with the reliable and easy to use Glassmaster LT 3 button controller which provides features for both the beginner and the advanced artist. Starting with simple factory set programmes can save a lot of time and a lot of glass. However, as you become familiar with the glass kiln this controller allows you to modify the settings during firing or design your own firings with five additional eight segment programmes, providing you with total programming freedom and confidence.

  • Full accessory kit, including- stand, 18cm kiln shelf, 3 shelf props, kiln wash and firing paper.

After a lot of thinking I bought this kiln to get me started in glass rather than wait and get a bigger one. It is incredibly easy to use on the auto programmes and even accessing the pre-stored casting programme was fairly simple. It is ideal for Bullseye glass, but I haven't yet started tweaking the temperatures to get better results from float glass, which seems to end up with a strong tack fuse instead of a full fuse. The main drawback is size, but that was known about and is more than compensated for by ease of use.

This is my first kiln and I love it. I was a little concerned about it being the lowest cost kiln (you pay for what you get kinda thing) but it was the only one we could afford. Since getting it, it is permanently on, the only thing that would make me trade this kiln would be for a bigger one and even then, it would take a lot of convincing!!!

I love this little kiln for jewellery and smaller items. I particularly love the speed with which it cools, so turnaround time is much quicker. I'd recommend it for both those new to fused glass and those with more experience.

As complete novices my wife and I bought this as first kiln 12 months ago. It has been great, easy to use especially with Warm Glass's firing guides and prompt answers to email questions. We use it to fuse pendants, coasters, mirror/picture frames and slump an fuse small dishes. There are no downsides to this kiln, it does everything we want, the only BUT, wish we had bought the Firebox14 model for the extra firing space

My first kiln and I made the right choice. Designed with beginners in mind it fused side by side samples of System 96 and Bullseye perfectly on the auto setting. Well made, easy to operate and takes approximately 7 hours for a fully fused piece to be 'touch cool' . Liftable, albeit short distances, the base/legs do not get beyond warm whereas the steel casing and roof get too hot to touch directly. I recommend fabricating a small chicken-wire enclosure if you have inquisitive cats like me looking for a warm surface to sleep on! Speedily delivered by warm glass - thank you :x

As a glass fusing novice, I was unsure about this kiln when I first used it. I found it awkward to remove and fit the shelf without knocking the thermocouple which protrudes from the inside wall. However having taken advice from Warm Glass, I've got used to this now - and have to say it's been a great buy. The kiln is compact, but perfect for smaller pieces and jewellery. Small yes - but nice looking and it stable on its sturdy legs. It's easy to use with preset tack, slump and full fuse programmes - results are consistently good. I do recommend this as a 'pocket rocket' of a kiln for beginners - great value for the price.

A great kiln. My first purchase and I am very pleased with the product and the service i am a beginner and found the manual accurate and thorough. My test firing proved the auto setting is just perfect for fusing.
