Product Information
Medium Lamp Bender Mould

Create lamps or curved objects which can stand upright on their own, using this semi-cylindrical mould.

Alternatively glue two identically slumped glass pieces together and add a base to create a deep vessel or vase.

Size: 35cm x 37cm, depth 11cm.

Width of glass needed to drape fully round the mould: 40cm

Please note : This mould does not fit in the Firebox 14 or HotStart Pro kiln. For a smaller version try the Small or Mini Lamp Bender moulds.

Firing Schedule:

Please Read: This firing recommendation has been calculated using Bullseye Glass with a thickness of 6 mm in a Paragon GL24 kiln.

Segment Rate (C/hr) Temp. Hold
1 167C 649C :20
2 999 482C 1:00
3 56C 371C :00

Troubleshooting

  • Small kilns may require the process temperature reducing. In the Hobbyfuser reduce the top temperature from 649C to 626C. All kilns vary, as does glass viscosity. Testing is necessary.

  • Remove the shelf when slumping in small kilns.

  • Side firing kilns may require more time in the first ramp than top firing kilns.

  • Bubbles in slumping are caused by firing too high or holding too long at process temperature.

  • Cracked moulds or cracked glass is caused by firing too fast in the first ramp or cooling too fast.

  • Devitrification on the outside of a slumped piece is caused by firing too high or holding too long at process temperature.

Please note that all our moulds are hand-made and therefore the dimensions may vary slightly from those shown. Mould manufacturers allow a tolerance of up to 2cm. We strongly recommend cutting the glass to the size measured from the actual mould rather than relying solely on the dimensions shown.

All our moulds are designed for multiple use and with care should last for many firings.

After being tempted to buy this mould, it worried me that it might be too big to use in my kiln (a Paragon 16" clamshell) so I contacted Warm Glass customer support, who advised me that it would be fine, and it was! They suggested that I take out the kiln shelf and slow down the initial heat soak rate to 100C to be on the safe side. I used a left over 30 cm square 6 mm piece I had fused previously to try out the mould/kiln combination (which looks great) but I can see that to take advantage of the mould’s size, using the full length of 40 cm would be better, giving more of a curve.
