Product Information
3mm Bullseye Opalescent Sheet Glass - Steel Blue.

Reactive GlassThis is a remarkable colour which stays blue when fired under a transparent glass or when overglazed, providing it is covered when fired. It also forms a pewter metallic film at lower temperatures if left uncovered. See the 'Special Effects - Steel Blue Opal' tipsheet, and start experimenting!

May react with:

Sulphur, Selenium

Cold characteristics:

Consistent colour.

Working notes:

At tack fusing temperatures, the surface frequently develops a metallic gray film. This usually disappears at full fusing temperatures. To avoid metallic filming, use an overglaze or cover with thin clear glass. To maintain the metallic effect, fire as quickly and low as possible. Consider stencil spraying of an overglaze to create patterns of metallic and non-metallic blue. Dark interface reaction likely with sulphur glasses (001137, 001437, 000137).

All our glass is COE90, Bullseye Glass compatible and suitable for warm glass applications such as glass fusing, glass casting and glass slumping (unless otherwise stated in the description).

I know this blue goes steely when fused at a lower temperature, but I got a surprise today. I had made a piece including three small sections of steel blue. I tack fused it first, but it came out steely. So I did a full fuse to encourage it to go clear again. It hasn't!!!! What a surprise - especially since I read the reviews before fusing, and I have used it before so I know how it behaves - or so I thought!!!!!

Brilliant contrast with reactive cloud frit or 'dots' made from large reactive frit!

Wow what a transformation! This colour was so fun to experiment with, I scattered some clear frit over a piece and where the steel blue wasn't covered it went a wonderful metallic grey, which really made the blue stand out. I
