Warm Glass Giving Back 2019

British Glass Biennale 2019

What is the British Glass Biennale?

The British Glass Biennale is the UK's leading exhibition of excellence in contemporary glass by British artists, designers and craftspeople and is the flagship show within the International Festival of Glass. The British Glass Biennale exhibition will be open Tuesday to Saturday from 23rd August to 28th September 2019 at the Glasshouse, Stourbridge, UK.

Seventy-four artists have been selected out of 200 applicants for the 2019 British Glass Biennale, including established artists and emerging new talent. We are really pleased and excited to see many of our regular Warm Glass customers, class teachers (Claire Hall & Amanda Simmons) and previous winners of The Glass Prize (Cathryn Shilling, 2013 & David Stroyny, 2017).

These works will form a cutting-edge showcase of contemporary British based glass talent, with over £12,000 worth of awards to be won. Prize winners will be announced on the 22nd August at the Glasshouse, Stourbridge. Winners chosen through public vote (such as the People's Prize sponsored by Warm Glass) will be announced at the closing ceremony on 28th September. For more information about the event, click here.

British Glass Biennale 2019

“The field of applications for the British Glass Biennale were of a very high standard this year which made the process of judging extremely difficult, but that is how it should be. Through their collective wisdom, knowledge and experience they made a fantastic selection for this years’ Biennale"

Matt Durran, Curator of the British Glass Biennale 2019

The People's Prize 2019 - Sponsored by Warm Glass UK

We are delighted to continue our sponsorship of the People's Prize and the British Glass Biennale, with an award of £750 Warm Glass UK vouchers.

Here at Warm Glass UK, we're passionate about supporting the contemporary glass scene and are privileged to sponsor this prestigious award and event.

The People's Prize is voted by the public, with visitors to the British Glass Biennale offered the chance to choose their favourite piece throughout the exhibition.

This year's winner will be announced at the closing ceremony on the 28th September and on the Warm Glass Facebook page.

Who won the People's Prize 2017?

The People's Prize 2017, sponsored by Warm Glass UK, was won by Colin Reid with his stunning piece 'Sunflowers R1892'. Cast in optical glass with slate, Colin employed lost wax, kilncasting, grinding, polishing and assemble techniques to create this huge reflective piece which took centre stage in the British Glass Biennale 2017 exhibition.

Visitors throughout the duration of the exhibition were encouraged to vote for their favourite piece and Colin was announced as the winner in the closing ceremony on the 9th September 2017.

The 2017 exhibition featured work by 63 contemporary artists, including British makers living and working abroad for the first time.
