Product Information

Take the guess work out of slumping and drop outs. Get to know what’s really going in the kiln when you slump.

“Excellent agenda, the projects were interesting and I felt that I have grasped and understood the technique I can now go away confident to work on my own.”

In this class you will achieve a thorough understanding of the principles of slumping and create samples to help that understanding, including a drop out vessel.

Time and Place:

Duration 2 Days - 10.00am to 4.00pm - Total 12 hours

Warm Glass UK, 5 Havyat Park, Wrington, Bristol. BS405PA

Class Description:

Stumped on slumping? Doubtful about drop outs? Then this is the class for you. We aim to demystify the process and help you to understand every aspect of slumping glass with plenty of demonstrations of visual slumping (yes that’s looking in the kiln whilst it’s on!).

Demonstrating drop out principles and exploring the viscosity of different colours, we aim to decode and de-complicate slumping schedules and help you to think creatively about the way we use moulds. We will take an in-depth look into what is often thought of as the last step in designing your art glass. This class is jam packed with valuable knowledge to help you eliminate any uncertainties you may feel around slumping.

From drop outs to creating your own forms to slump over, we will push slumping to its creative limits with the aim of showing you the possibilities of this often overlooked and misunderstood process.

A wonderful informative course which took some of the mystery out of drop out – it has given me enough confidence to have a go myself.

A very interesting and quite technical course. The drop outs are surprisingly easy to make but there is a lot of cold working needed to finish them off.

Really took the mystery and fear out of making drop outs. So satisfying in removing the rim successfully. Also cold working by hand proved to be less complicated than expected good theory on slumping to.

One of the best courses I’ve done! I learnt lots of new techniques and it was a very “hands on” class, including using & “peeping” into the different kilns, which is unusual in a class. Megan is so knowledgeable & approachable and gives sensible advice. Many thanks!

Fabulous class, Megan was a great instructor, gave lots of help and answered everyone’s questions. We had lots of examples and the end product was beyond my expectations.

The class is super informative. I have learnt so much and definitely feel more confident about doing slumping and can’t wait to try more drop out projects.

One of the best courses I have been on. Very well organised. Had the opportunity to use plenty of different cold working tools, flat bed grinders, sand blasters and ordinary grinders.
