Product Information
Skutt HotStart Pro glass kiln with digital programmer.

The Skutt HotStart Pro kiln is probably the best value starter glass kiln available. It plugs into a normal 13amp socket and costs less than 75p per firing. This 38cm chamber diameter kiln is produced by the world's largest manufacturer of hobby kilns and has the best programmer we have seen.  Skutt have spent years perfecting this excellent glass kiln. We think that it's the perfect combination of top firing and straight forward programming which makes this kiln extremely hard to beat. Ideal for glass fusing, slumping and casting.

The HotStart Pro is easy to use, whether you are a beginner or a professional glass worker. We highly recommend this for both quality and value for money.  The HotStart Pro is similar to the Firebox 14, with the same great controller, but with a smaller chamber size.

The HotStart Pro comes with the excellent LT Controller and full accessory kit, including a stand, kiln shelf and supports. It comes wired with a standard UK domestic plug. This is a stock product.

Construction:

The HotStart Pro is a top firing kiln, with the elements in the lid.  The lid itself is a lightweight brick construction coated with refractory cement. It has a cool-touch handle and a prop to keep the lid open when filling or emptying the kiln. The chamber is also made from lightweight brick, which is used because it is able to expand and contract as the kiln heats and cools. It also helps reduce the overall weight of the kiln.  The whole kiln is set on a sturdy metal stand.

Programmer:

Glassmaster LT

One of the best features of the HotStart kiln is the reliable and easy to use Glassmaster LT 3 button controller which provides features for both the beginner and the advanced artist. Starting with simple factory set programmes can save a lot of time and a lot of glass. However, as you become familiar with the glass kiln this controller allows you to modify the settings during firing or design your own firings with five additional eight segment programmes, providing you with total programming freedom and confidence.

Helpful Videos:  Click here for a VIDEO of how to take your kiln off the factory settings, here to learn how to program the kiln and here for a VIDEO of how to change your kilns display temperature.

Chamber size:

The chamber is circular (actually heptagonal) with a diameter of 38cm.  The maximum circular piece you can fit inside would be 34cm in diameter. The maximum square piece would be 26cm x 26cm. For example you could fit 4 standard coasters in per firing. The depth of the kiln is 16.5cm.  The kiln comes with props and a circular shelf of 32.5cm diameter. See below for Kiln shelf information:

Delivered within 4 days of order. Kiln arrived well packaged and took only minutes to set up. Only tried the default programme settings thus far but simple to use and the results are excellent. Would recommend.

This is my first kiln and it is truly amazing. From unpacking, to plugging in and first firing..... wow. It really is easy to use, and easy to understand. It makes complete firing a push button affair, especially for the beginner, with the option to personalize programmes for the more experienced.

As a complete kiln novice, I bought this purely for firing glass paint & silver stain, as opposed to fusing and slumping etc. It's a smashing little kiln, easy to set up and program with the excellent instruction manual. First results are great for both paint and stain. Excellent advice received from Veronica at warm glass and quick delivery too. If the first few days are anything to go by, the kiln and I are going to get on just fine!
Highly recommended from a novice point of view.

Had this running practically 24/7 since it arrived on Tuesday.

Easy to set up, controller super simple to navigate with the help of the excellent manual. Set it to heat some frit balls at max speed and went from room temp to 816 in about 2 hours.

Love it.

this is my first ever kiln, and I haven't been disappointed with the results! So easy to use and a decent size kiln allowing me to become a bit more adventurous with glass. 5 stars and great fun learning new techniques.
