Programmer

One of the best features of the Firebox 14 kiln is the reliable and easy to use Glassmaster LT 3 button controller which provides features for both the beginner and the advanced artist. Starting with simple factory set programmes can save a lot of time and a lot of glass. However, as you become familiar with the glass kiln this controller allows you to modify the settings during firing or design your own firings with five additional eight segment programmes, providing you with total programming freedom and confidence.

Chamber Size: The square chamber shape is a major benefit over the otherwise similar Hotstart Pro Kiln. The dimensions are 36 x 36 x 17cm, which means you can fire up to 9 standard 10x10cm coasters at once.

Value for money, similar kilns this size retail at over £1000

I love my kiln because it is so easy to get started. There are set programmes that are perfect for most tasks for the beginner to use. It looks good in my studio and it doesn't take up a great deal of space. It is so well insulated that the surrounding area barely warms up, which is vital when you only have a small space to fire in.

We are delighted with our Skutt Firebox 14. I was a virtual stranger to glass and I found your advice so helpful when setting up a glass area in our 3D room.

We chose this kiln, with your guidance, as it seemed like a good size and shape for what we needed. We fuse up to 9 pieces of work at a time (based on 10 x 10 tile size) and so far we have used the kiln exclusively for fused glass. The students love to open the lid and see the results the next day. The kiln is so simple to use and we tend to use the existing programmes set by the factory.

The kiln can be plugged into the mains, therefore it is very adaptable for home use.

I recently recommended you to a friend, who has bought one for her school.

After deciding that Warm Glass was the most efficient and friendly company to buy my supplies from I visited and spoke to Jess about kilns.

The Firebox 14 most suited my purposes in terms of external size and internal capacity. I was delighted not to have to get an electrician in, as it plugs directly into a normal socket. I was also pleased to be able to add my own firing programmes to those already pre-set. I'm very happy with the product and with being able to make anything from x9 coasters at one firing to sizeable dishes.

I attended the fusing and slumping foundation course with a view to coming home with a kiln and this was the kiln that stood out for me. It was the most reasonably priced for what I wanted and offered me the flexibility of a range of auto firing schedules that gave me confidence as a novice glass artist.1 year on I am still finding that the firebox 14 is still the kiln for me as I am now brave enough to use the Pro settings and write my own firing schedules! I have found the square shape allows the kiln to slot neatly into a corner of my studio and I was impressed that it came with everything I needed to get firing!

I upgraded from my Paragon SC2b to a Firebox 14 because I needed a kiln with more shelf space for my glass fusing but still wanted a low-cost to run, not too large kiln due to space limitations. I also still wanted the option of annealing my lampwork beads straight from the flame. The programmer is great - all the pre-programmed factory settings have been successful with only a little tweaking of top temperature and hold times and programming your own firing / annealing cycles is straightforward. I am really pleased that I have moved from a front to a top-loading kiln as it means I can arrange small design elements on coasters, tiles and dishes in situ with ease. I also find the heat much more uniform across the kiln shelf which means that I can fill the kiln almost to the edges of the shelf - I do find that nine coasters (as the brochure recommends) is too much with too little space between but this is a minor detail. The contact I had with Warm Glass prior to purchasing my kiln was exceptionally helpful - they were happy to answer even my most silliest of questions which was great when thinking about spending this sort of money. I felt like I was making an informed decision and one that has proved correct - I would not hesitate in recommending the Firebox 14 kiln and Warm Glass to others.
