Casting usually takes several days to learn, but we have developed this very informative intensive class so that you learn to cast in a day.
You will finish this class with two glass castings which will require little coldworking.
Time and Place
Duration 1 day - 10.00am to 4.00pm - Total 6 hours.
Warm Glass UK, 5 Havyatt Park, Wrington, Bristol. BS40 5PA
Class Description
Hands-on from the outset, you will begin by making a clay form to mould from. As we progress through the day, you will build two open face moulds using alginate and plater.
Mould 1 will be used to cast glass around your form using glass billet, this will be an optically transparent open face casting.
Mould 2 will be used to cast your form in glass using glass frit, this will be a traditional cast piece.
Finally you will load the kiln ready for the two day firing process required for casting glass.
Firing schedules, glass preparation, mould charging, cold working and health & safety will be covered during the class.
Your finished pieces will be partially cleaned up and sharp edges removed for you, further coldworking may be required.
